If you want to transfer your apps from an old to a new iPhone or Android phone, you can do this in several ways. In this practical tip, we will show you how to do it.
Android & iPhone: Transfer apps to a new phone via backup
- The easiest way to transfer the apps is to create a backup on the old phone and then install it on the new phone. Not only your apps are transferred, but also settings and all other data.
- To do this, follow the instructions for an Android backup or the instructions for an iPhone backup. However, please note that you can also transfer legacy issues to your new cell phone with a backup. There are better ways to transfer apps, especially on Android. Read on in the next paragraphs for iOS and Android.
Android: transfer apps to new smartphone
- Open the "Settings" app on your old Android smartphone and select "Google" in the "Accounts & sync" category. Here you can log in with a Google account and synchronize all the data you want, including apps and app data.
- If you also log in to your new smartphone with the Google account, you can simply take over the apps if you wish. When setting up the new smartphone, you are sometimes also suggested to transfer the data via NFC.
- If you don't want to transfer all apps, you can simply install the desired applications manually. Swipe left to right in the Play Store and find the "All" category under "My Apps". Here you will find all previously installed apps that you can now load again.
iOS: Transfer apps to new iPhone
- On iPhone, you can only transfer your apps to a new device automatically via a backup. Without backup, you have to reinstall all the apps you want. If you are logged in with the same Apple ID, the data within the apps will be partially synchronized.
- Simply open the App Store and switch to the "Updates" category at the bottom right. If you tap on the "Purchases" above, you will find all the apps that you have downloaded before. Alternatively, you can also find the desired apps individually using the search.
