Kindle Fire Apps - Where Can You Find Them?
Basically, you can only install the apps from the Amazon app store on the "Kindle Fire". You can also use a trick to access other Android apps.
The Amazon app store
The first choice for Kindle apps is of course the in-house Amazon app store. Here you can find (in the middle of 2013) around 65, 000 Kindle Fire apps - everything from games to health or prescription apps to books and eComics.
Alternative: Apps from the Google Play Store for Kindle Fire
If this app selection is too small for you, you can also download the apps from the Google Play Store. Prerequisite: Your Kindle Fire is rooted. We explain how this works here. To then install the Google Store on your Kindle Fire, follow the steps below.
- Go to the Kindle settings and activate the "Allow application installation" option under "Device".
- Now you can download the free "Es File Explorer" from the Amazon shop to your device.
- Download this ZIP package with the files from the Google Play Store on your computer and extract it into the "Downloads" folder on your connected Kindle Fire.
- In "Es File Explorer" open "Tools" in the left bar and then "Root Explorer". A "superuser request" should now appear, which you must allow.
- At "/" select the item "Include as R / W". Then go to the "Download" folder on the right and tap "GoogleServicesFramework.apk" to install it.
- If you then hold "Vending.apk", the "Copy" option appears. There, navigate to "/> system> app" and paste the file there.
- Hold down "Vending.apk" again and change the permissions under "More> Properties". All checkmarks must be set for "User", only the checkmarks for "Read" and "Execute" for Group and Other. Once this is done, install the file as explained in point 5.
- Now you can find the older version of the Play Store in your other apps. Open it and log in.
If a connection to the Google server cannot be established when opening the Play Store, try briefly interrupting the WLAN connection and then re-establishing it. It should work after a few tries. If you want to install the newer version of the store, then install the third file from the ZIP package with the name "Gplay3.8.17.apk", just as in points 4 and 5. The store is then automatically updated to the latest version after opening.
