Giving away apps is a great idea if you want to make friends happy. In addition, this is quick, uncomplicated and even on the last minute.
Give away iPhone apps - how it works
If you want to gift iPhone or iPad users with apps, you have three options: If you have an Apple device yourself, you can give it away very easily via the store app. Otherwise, you can switch to iTunes or, if you don't have an Apple account yourself, use gift cards.
- Give away via iPhone apps: Open the AppStore, find the right app for giving away and tap the up arrow in the top right corner. Then select »Gift«. Then enter the recipient's email address, optionally a message and specify when the gift should be delivered.
- Gifting apps via iTunes: Search the iTunes Store for the app you want to give away. Click on the down arrow next to the buy button of the item and select »Give away the app«. On the next page, choose how the gift should be delivered. You can email the gift or print it out.
Give away Android apps - how it works
Android is far behind iOS when it comes to "giving away apps".
- Apps cannot be given away via the Google Play Store or the Amazon App Store. There is also no gift function via the Android store app.
- The only way to give away Android apps anyway is to use gift cards, which are available for the Play Store in retail stores. Amazon gift cards are also available there.
Give away Windows Phone apps - only via cards
Microsoft also has no way to give away apps at the start in its Windows Phone Store.
- On the Windows Phone, you are looking in vain for a button to give away apps.
- At least there are also gift cards. At Microsoft they are called prepaid cards and can also be bought online for a value of 5 to 50 euros.
