Install RAM - you have to pay attention to that
If you want to install new RAM (RAM) in your computer, you can do it with two left hands. You only need the right memory model and equipment to screw on your laptop or PC. We show you how it works and what you should pay attention to.
Install RAM - which one do I need?
- When purchasing the RAM, you should make sure that it is also compatible with your computer.
- Older and newer devices cannot cope with all three types of RAM: DDR, DDR2 and DDR3.
- This practical tip shows you what type your computer needs and what you can do if the new memory is not recognized.
Install new RAM - how it works
If there is still a slot on the mainboard, you can install the new RAM in parallel. If all places are occupied, you have to replace one or both modules.
- Turn off your computer completely and remove the power cable from the back.
- Remove the screws on the back of the cover and open the PC or laptop.
- Now you have to be extra careful. Do not touch the mainboard at all if possible. Use only your hands and no tools for installation.
- On the left and right of the already installed RAM modules you will find a mostly white switch. If you simply move this to the outside, the working memory can be removed.
- Insert the new memory and press it down with a little pressure. Then reattach the white switches.
- Now you can screw your computer back together and put it into operation.
Windows: Check RAM
- Start your computer and open the Control Panel.
- You will now find the "System" under the "System and Security" category.
- Approximately in the middle you can see the working memory recognized by Windows.
- Note: If a module was not recognized correctly, you will find suitable instructions here.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to check your working memory for errors.
