Asus: BIOS update with bootable USB stick
A bootable USB stick helps to carry out a BIOS update on your Asus. Read here what steps you need to follow.
Step 1: Download the DOS files for the BIOS update
In order to update your BIOS, you need a small user interface.
- First go to biosflash.com.
- Click "download" to download the tools you need.
- Unzip the archive on your PC.
- The "boot_usb_stick" folder contains all the tools and files that are required.
- Since these files are hidden, you must first view them.
Step 2: Format the USB stick for the BIOS update
With the included tool "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" you can easily format the USB stick and make it bootable.
- Connect your USB stick to the PC.
- If there are still files on the stick, you should now back them up on the PC, as they will be deleted from the USB stick when formatting.
- Open the "boot_usb_stick" folder and copy the "usbdos" folder to the desktop.
- Start the "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" tool, which can be found in the "usbdos" folder.
- Select the USB stick under "Device" and the option "FAT" under "File system". Under "Volume label" you can give the stick a name.
- Then check the "" Create a DOS startup disk "and" using DOS system files located at: ". Enter the path to the "usbdos" folder here.
- Formatting is started by clicking on "Start".
Step 3: Copy the BIOS data to the USB stick
Then copy the BIOS data for your motherboard to the bootable USB stick.
- Go to the ASUS website.
- Click on the "i" next to the input field and then "Select model manually".
- Under "Motherboard", click "Motherboard".
- Select the serial number and model you are using here.
- Then click on "Drivers & Utilities" on the right side.
- Select your operating system from the list.
- Then click on "BIOS" and download the latest file. Finally, drag this onto the USB stick.
Step 4: Perform the BIOS update with the USB stick
Now restart your PC to update the BIOS.
- To be able to boot from the stick, you must first change the boot sequence.
- Then restart the PC.
- The program now starts on its own. You can see the progress of the update by the bar.
- Important: Do not restart the PC during the update process and do not disconnect the power supply! You risk damage to the motherboard that cannot be repaired!
- After a successful BIOS update, the PC is automatically restarted.
- Then switch to the BIOS and restore your desired settings.
