Activate ATI adapter - how it works
If you want to activate your ATI adapter, this is usually done in a few steps. We'll show you how it's done.
Activate ATI adapter - why does the message appear?
- If you have replaced an old ATI graphics card with a new one, the AMD Catalyst Control Center reports that you should activate the ATI adapter.
- To fix the problem, you only need the latest driver for the graphics card. If you did not see the problem, you can also follow these instructions for activating the graphics card.
Download driver for ATI adapter
- Open the following AMD website and look for the "Automatically detect and install drivers" section.
- If you click the "Download now" button, the download will start. The software automatically recognizes which driver you need and installs it.
- Alternatively, you can manually download the driver further down on the website by specifying the technical data. Professionals will also see beta versions here.
Activate the ATI adapter manually
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Run" window opens.
- Enter the command "devmgmt.msc" and confirm with "OK". Then the device manager starts.
- You can find your ATI graphics card under the "Graphics card" category. You may see a second graphics card. Here you have to choose the right one.
- Right-click on the graphics card and select the "Properties" option.
- Go to the "Driver" tab and select the "Update Driver" option.
- Follow the next steps here. If a new driver is installed, the problem may be resolved after a restart.
- If that didn't help, click the "Deactivate" button and then "Activate".
- The last step is the "Uninstall" button and the subsequent "Install".
