Audacity: No sound - you can do that
If Audacity no longer plays any sound, this is usually due to incorrect settings. They can easily be adjusted if you connect a speaker or headphones. In this guide, we show you how to choose the right playback device.
No sound at Audacity: How to fix the error
If there is no sound when playing a track in Audacity, first check the selected playback device:
- In the top right of the menu bar, you can select the playback device from a drop-down menu next to the microphone.
- Check here whether the correct device is selected, whether it is plugged in and switched on.
- You can also find the settings under "Edit"> "Settings" or [CTRL] + [P] and then in the "Devices" section.
Check sound settings in Windows
- If you still don't get any sound, right-click on the loudspeaker symbol in the task bar to open the "Playback devices".
- Right-click on the desired device and select "Test". Now a signal sounds from the loudspeaker / headphones.
- By right-clicking the device again, you can now click "Select as default device".
Reconnect the device and reinstall the driver
- If you still have no sound in Audacity, remove all connected devices and restart the computer.
- If you do not hear any sound from Audacity via the internal loudspeaker, connect headphones or external loudspeakers. Now wait until the driver is installed and restart Audacity.
- The last option is to uninstall or update the old driver.
