Task planning in Windows 10 - how it works
With Task Scheduler in Windows 10, you can have programs or batch files run automatically at a specified time. We show you how task planning works.
Task planning in Windows 10: plan task
In this paragraph we explain step by step how to plan a task:
- Start task scheduling. You can find it by entering "Task Planning" in the start menu.
- Under Action, click Create Task. You will now see a window with various tabs that you should go through one after the other.
- General: In the "General" tab, give the task any name. Optionally, you can add a description. If you want to assign the task to a user, make the appropriate settings in the "Security Options" section. You should activate the "Execute with highest privileges" option so that Windows can carry out the task without prompting. Finally, configure the task for Windows 10.
- Trigger: In the "Trigger" tab, you define the conditions under which the task is to be carried out. Click on "New". Now you can define a schedule according to which the task is to be started.
- Actions: Here you determine which file is to be executed. Click on "New" and select the program file from your computer.
- Conditions: Under "Conditions" you can make additional settings. Here you can keep the preset options. Only if you use a laptop, you should specify under "Energy" whether the task should be carried out on battery power.
- Settings: In the "Settings" you can define security options so that the task can be aborted if an error occurs.
Task planning in Windows 10: edit task
If you want to make settings for a task that has already been created, proceed as follows:
- Start task planning as described in the first paragraph.
- In the "Active Tasks" section, search for the task you want to edit and double-click on it.
- You will now see the same tabs in the lower area as described above. In the bar on the right under "Selected element", click on "Properties" to change the settings.
- Click "Deactivate" to temporarily deactivate the task or "Delete" to remove it.
