Car battery life
There are several factors that affect car battery performance. Some can influence you, others not. We'll show you what factors affect battery life and how long it can normally be used.
- One factor that influences the service life is the on-board electronics. The more electricity the battery has to supply for the electronics of a car, the more it is used.
- The driving style also influences a car battery. If you drive short distances very often, this will damage the battery.
- The car battery is particularly stressed in winter because the chemical reactions in the battery take place more slowly. Therefore, you should only use the really necessary electronics of your car in winter.
- Over time, crystals of lead sulfate form in the battery. These are deposited on the electrode. This means that at some point this will no longer offer enough space and thus reduce the performance of the battery.
- If the crystals fall off, deposit on the bottom and this layer touches the electrodes, a short circuit occurs and the battery is unusable.
- If the factors mentioned affect your car battery, it can no longer function after 4 years. However, if the battery is used carefully, it can survive 15 to 20 years.
