AutoCAD: Create hatching - so it'll work
Hatching plays an important role in technical drawings. With the planning and drawing program AutoCAD you can fall back on numerous hatches. Sometimes, however, it is also important to use your own hatching.
- To create your own hatching in AutoCAD, the contour must be drawn on one of the contour layers AM_0, AM_1 or AM_2.
- Then navigate in the "Start" tab to "Group -> Draw -> Hatching -> Custom dropdown list".
- Here you can now set the hatching properties. You must give the hatching a name, the description is optional. Angle, X origin, Y origin, Delta-X and Delta-Y define the hatching.
- In AutoCAD, the angle defines the angle lines in the hatching.
- X Origin and Y Origin indicate the X and Y coordinates of the base point for the pattern.
- Delta-X defines the distance between successive lines and therefore only applies to dashed lines. Delta-Y describes the distance between lines perpendicular to the direction of the lines and applies to both solid and dashed lines.
- You can also enter dash specifications for non-continuous lines. However, these stroke specifications are limited to a maximum of six.
- At the end, save your hatching and then click in the area you want to apply this pattern to.
In the next practical tip we will explain how to create a block in AutoCAD.
