Auto correction on iPhone and Android: how to use them correctly
Spaghetti with pesticides or the settlers of cannabis - auto-correction on the iPhone and on Android has already caused many embarrassing situations. That's why we give you some tips and tricks on how to use the feature without errors.
Tip 1: Add your own terms in the auto correction dictionary
If you frequently use colloquial language or abbreviations in your messages, the autocorrection will not keep up. Such terms are not included in the dictionary by default. However, you can add them manually so that your words are no longer corrected:
- Open the settings under iOS and tap on "General" and "Keyboard". Here you select the entry "Short commands" and add your desired word using the plus symbol. Insider tip: You can use the "Shortcut" field to specify how your iPhone should correct an entry. For example, you can have abbreviations like "MfG" converted directly into their normal form.
- Android users have it a little easier here. The built-in dictionaries automatically record terms that you use frequently. So you don't have to worry about anything.
Tip 2: Write faster using the Swype keyboard
If you want to write even faster than with just auto correction, you should test the Swype keyboard. All you have to do is swipe over the individual letters and the auto-correction complements your movements to meaningful words.
- The intelligent keyboard is already integrated in Android. You can activate and use them in the Settings app under "Language and input".
- iOS users, however, have to install the optional keyboard first. To do this, download the Swype app. You can then activate the keyboard in the Settings app under "General"> "Keyboard".
Tip 3: disable auto-correction on iOS and Android
If you are tired of incorrect entries and annoying corrections, you can completely deactivate the auto correction.
- On the iPhone, open the Settings app and tap the "Keyboard" entry in the "General" section. There you can turn off auto-correction or auto-capitalization.
- Proceed a little differently for Android smartphones: Here you start the Settings app and tap on "Language and input". There, find your currently installed keyboard and deactivate the "Automatic spelling" setting.
