AV receiver with Airplay: The best three devices
AirPlay is an important function in networks to stream content wirelessly. We show you the three best AV receivers that also support the AirPlay standard.
The 7-channel amplifier: Yamaha RX-V675
You can get the Yamaha RX-V675 for less than € 400. The AV receiver made it to number 1 in Stiftung Warentest (test 11/2013). The reason for this is the versatility and the good network connection. In addition to AirPlay, this also includes other streaming services.
- Amplifier: With a total of 1050 watts of power, the AV receiver provides enough power for your speakers. A power of 150 watts is specified per channel. An automatic calibration function as a correction function and numerous equalizers are available for the sound image.
- Network functions: The Yamaha RX-V675 can be fully integrated into your existing network. In the standard version, the receiver has only one LAN connection. Optionally, this can be expanded with WLAN. With AirPlay you can then stream media from your Apple devices or with iTunes directly to the AV receiver. Yamaha provides an app that you can use to operate the device.
- Equipment: In addition to the standard equipment (HDMI, USB, LAN), the receiver has a total of 4 digital inputs. The competition usually only manages half. The new 4k resolution is also supported. The receiver even converts analog signals to HDMI.
- Power consumption: The manufacturer promises reduced power consumption with a new ECO mode. This should decrease by 20%. You can also define an automatic shutdown. The receiver only consumes 0.15 watts in standby.
The 7-channel amplifier with powerful amplifiers: Pioneer VSX-923
The Pioneer VSX-923 is available from Amazon for just under € 300. In many tests, the Pioneer AV receiver achieved remarkably good amplifier performance.
- Amplifier: With 150 watts per channel, the Pioneer VSX-923 has a similar output to the Yamaha RX-V675. In practice, the output power of the Pioneer VSX-923 in the surround range is significantly higher than that of the Yamaha device.
- Network functions: You can optionally expand the AV receiver with a WLAN adapter (AS-WL300). The device is certified with many standards such as DLNA and AirPlay. With iTunes you get music or videos on the Pioneer VSX-923. The manufacturer describes the device with good reason: "In love with your 'i devices'".
- Equipment: If you have a modern TV with 4K Ultra HD resolution, the AV receiver can extrapolate content using a "4K Video Scaler". You can control the receiver with your mobile phone or tablet. There is the free app "iControlAV2013" in the Apple Store or on Google Play.
- Power consumption: The device consumes 550 watts in operation and 0.1 watts in standby. You can achieve these values with the ECO mode, which you control via the device, the remote control or the app.
The 5-channel amplifier: Denon AVR-X1000
The Denon AVR-X1000 is the cheapest receiver with less than 300 euros - but only has 5 channels.
- Amplifier: With 145 watts per channel, the Denon AVR-X1000 has a minimally lower output power than the other two models. In practice, the receiver convinces with a very precise correction function. The automatic calibration also produces a very good surround sound.
- Network functions: In contrast to the 7-channel amplifier, the Denon AVR-X1000 relies on the LAN connection. You cannot expand the device with WLAN. Nevertheless, the receiver supports AirPlay and DLNA. You can connect your Apple devices directly to the AV receiver via the USB front input. You will then see the artist and title information on your screen
- Equipment: You can connect your Apple devices directly to the AV receiver via the USB front input. However, the AVR-X1000 does not convert your analog signal to HDMI.
- Power consumption: Due to the lower number of channels, the power consumption during operation is also lower (390 watts). Thanks to its energy-saving properties, the device automatically adjusts consumption to your needs.
