Avast makes PC slow - you can do that
Antivirus programs like Avast are essential on your computer. However, many of them are also suspected of making the computer slow. We look at whether Avast & Co are actually responsible and what you can do.
Slow through Avast? Yes, but not only.
In principle, of course, it applies that every program that is executed accesses system resources and slows down the computer. This also applies to antivirus programs. The interaction of hardware and software used on your computer is also a decisive factor. With a modern computer and the latest AV software, your system should no longer slow down noticeably. The following points should be noted:
- Never remove your antivirus software from your computer just to get more performance. An unprotected computer is far worse than a slow one.
- Do not run two or more antivirus programs with real-time protection at the same time.
- It is best to remove temporary (protection) software to try it out right away. Then install your chosen antivirus.
- Make sure your antivirus software is always up to date.
- Outdated hardware and the latest software together can lead to problems and a slow computer. Sufficient RAM is an advantage here.
- Clean your computer! An "unkempt" PC is one of the main causes of slow computing power. We have instructions for summer cleaning for your computer as well as a photo gallery with 25 ideas for cleaning up. You can also take action against high CPU utilization by Avast.
And for all those who want to know exactly, we also have the test from an independent testing institute.
