Avast: report virus - how it works
If you find a virus or other malware that Avast does not recognize, you can report the file to the manufacturer. The same also works - albeit somewhat differently - for infected websites. In this practical tip, we will show you how to proceed in both cases.
Avast AntiVirus: Report infected files
Until recently, Avast had a separate website where you could upload infected files. You must now contact the manufacturer by email.
- Send a message from your mail account to " ".
- In the subject line write "Undetected Malware". A text in the email itself is not necessary.
- Then add the infected files as usual as an attachment. If you would like to send several files at once, you should combine them into a ZIP-RAR or 7ZIP archive. Instructions for this can be found in this article.
- If the files are too large for an email attachment, upload them to the Avast FTP server in the "/ incoming" folder. The address is "ftp.avast.com" and the user name for login is "anonymous". This article explains how to set up an FTP server. Then the name of the file to " ".
Report infected websites to Avast
You must also send Avast an email for infected websites, although the email address is different:
- Send your message to " ", choosing "Undetected Malware" as the subject.
- In the text field of the email, first state the complete URLs of the infected websites.
- You can then briefly describe what the harmful behavior of the website looks like that you have noticed.
