Import AVI file into iMovie - so it'll work

Convert AVI file for iMovie
The easiest way to use an AVI file in iMovie is to convert the file to a suitable format.
- Download the free "Handbrake" converter from our download portal.
- Mount the DMG file with a double click and open the new drive.
- Now copy the Handbrake.app file into your program folder.
- Now open the application. If an error message appears, you have to start the application with a right click -> "Open". Then you can still click on "Open" in the error message.
- When the program starts, you will be asked for a "source" immediately. Select the respective AVI file that you want to import into iMovie.
- Now click on the "Toggle Presets" icon in the top right corner. A list should appear to the right of the program window.
- Select here under "Devices" -> "Universal". This default should work for most applications.
- In the middle part of the application you can still define the storage location. Then start the conversion.
Import converted AVI file to iMovie
You can then easily import the converted file into iMovie.
- Start iMovie.
- Select "File" -> "Import" -> "Movies ..." from the menu bar.
- Now find the converted file and open it.
- Now you can easily import the file into iMovie. You will then find these in your iMovie media library.
