Avira Antivir: Fix error code 12 during installation
If you want to install Avira Antivir and receive Error Code 12, you have to fix the error yourself. We'll show you how to do this.
Step 1: Fix Error Code 12 in Avira Antivir - this is how you proceed
- The solution is very simple in most cases: restart your PC completely.
- Then open the Avira AntiVir installation file. The installation usually continues automatically.
- If the reboot does not help, you should try one of the other solutions:
Step 2: Remove RebootPending.txt file from Avira AntiVir
Update problems with Avira Antivir very often go back to the "RebootPending.txt" file. Delete this file manually if you did not solve Error Code 12 with the first solution:
- Right-click on the Avira screen icon in the task bar and select "Start Avira Free Antivirus".
- Then click on "Tools" and "Configuration" to open the configuration menu.
- There you select the entry "General" and then "Security".
- Remove the check mark next to "Protect files and registry entries from manipulation".
- Then delete the file "RebootPending.txt" at the following location on your PC: "C: \ ProgramData \ Avira \ AntiVir Desktop \ CONFIG \ RebootPending.txt".
- If you cannot find the file there, activate the display of hidden files and folders in the Windows folder options. In the next article we will show you how this works under Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Step 3: Further solutions against Error Code 12 at Avira
If the solutions in the first and second section are not successful for you, then proceed as follows:
- Registry entries may cause the error in Antivir. You can run a registry cleaner on your system. Programs like the "Wise Registry Cleaner" remove unnecessary entries from the registry database.
- Also check whether your PC has imported all system updates. We explain how to install the updates in this practical tip.
- Then start the installation again.
