Avira: Remove pop-up ads - Here's how
You can remove Avira's annoying pop-up ads without having to uninstall all of the antivirus software. A small program is enough to reliably suppress the popups and to save both your CPU resources and your nerves.
Switch off Avira's Notifier and suppress advertising
- Download the "BgPKiller" software.
- Extract the ZIP directory with a program like "7-Zip".
- In the new folder you will find the files "BGPKiller.exe" and "ReleaseNotes.txt". Run "BGPKiller.exe" on your computer.
- In order for the "BgPKiller" to automatically block the Avira popups, you must anchor a link to the program in the Startup folder. You can read how to do this in this practical tip under the section "Add programs to the autostart menu".
- From now on, Avira's annoying notification is blocked. By hovering over the "BgPKiller" systray icon, you can see the number of suppressed popups behind "Total Kills".
Temporarily deactivate Avira pop-up advertising
In the free version of Avira, too, you can now block advertising for a certain period of time.
- If the Notifier appears on the desktop, there is also a sign with a crossed-out bell in addition to the close symbol.
- You can now set whether you want to receive the notification every 24 hours or every 48 hours.
- Your selection is accepted via the "Back" button.
This tip refers to BgPKiller v 0.9.1 and Avira Free Antivirus 15. If you want to switch to another virus scanner, you will find an extensive test of 23 antivirus programs here.
