Eating Avocado Kernel: What You Should Know About It
It's no secret that avocados are healthy. But what about their cores? We have summarized for you whether this poses a health hazard or is best suited for consumption.
Eat Avocado Kernel - Healthy Ingredients
Avocado seeds contain many vitamins, minerals and trace elements that are important and healthy for the human body. However, there are no studies to date that actually prove that the healthy nutrients outweigh the toxic substances and thus bring more advantages than disadvantages to the human body.
- Potassium, magnesium and iron are contained in the core. Amino acids and unsaturated fatty acids prevent infections in the body. These also have an anti-inflammatory effect and protect the cells.
- Regular consumption of the avocado core lowers the cholesterol level.
- The core also contains fiber, bitter substances and secondary plant substances, such as flavonoids and caratinoids.
- The healthy nutrients can protect your body against free radicals, inhibit inflammation, prevent cardiovascular diseases and infections, strengthen the immune system and stimulate the metabolism and the function of the thyroid gland.
Possible health hazard from eating avocado seeds
But there are also dissenting voices stating that avocado seeds are more than unhealthy. Accordingly, the core even contains toxic substances.
- The avocado core contains persin. This is a toxic fatty acid compound. The poison protects the fruit from amoebas, fungi and worms.
- A high dose of persine is harmful to the human organism.
- However, the harmful effects of the avocado core have not been researched - just as little as the good impact on the human body.
- So far, the sale of food made from avocado seeds has not been permitted in Europe.
- You should therefore avoid excessive consumption. Use avocado seeds sparingly.
Use the avocado core
You can use avocado seeds in different ways. First, however, you should always dry the core.
- Let the core dry for a day or two and remove the skin. This can be easily removed when it is really dry.
- Cut the avocado core into thin slices. You can roast them and then eat them.
- For example, mix chopped pieces of avocado into a smoothie.
- The tart, slightly bitter taste works best with tasteless foods. Therefore, use it with spinach, cabbage or kohlrabi, for example.
- If you grate the avocado core finely with a grater, you can add it to the muesli or yoghurt or sprinkle it over a salad.
- To make tea from the core, pour boiling water over a teaspoon of grated avocado kernel and let it steep for ten minutes.
- You can also add finely ground avocado powder to the porridge, for example.
