Descale the iron - how it works
Descale your iron regularly to extend the lifespan of your household appliance. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind.
How to descale your iron properly
The limescale deposits that build up in an iron over time not only reduce the lifespan of the device. A calcified iron can also leave unsightly limescale marks on your clothes when ironing.
- To descale your iron, you can use either a decalcifying agent or a home remedy. If you decide to use a decalcifying agent, resolve it according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Alternatively, vinegar essence is suitable for descaling an iron. Mix water with vinegar essence in a two to one ratio.
- Regardless of which variant you choose - the water tank of your iron must be empty before descaling. Now pour the dissolved decalcifier or the water-vinegar essence mixture into the water tank.
- Turn your iron on to the highest level and wait for it to get hot. Briefly press the steam button and the button for the splash water function once.
- Now switch off the device and let it cool down. The descaler can now work and dissolve the lime in the device.
- After a quarter of an hour, switch the iron back to the highest level. Now let the device evaporate completely. Don't forget the splash water function.
- Tip: When descaling, not only water vapor but also lime comes out of the nozzles. For this reason, it is best to hold the iron over a bowl or sink during descaling.
- Before you use your iron again after descaling, fill the water tank with clear water and let the iron evaporate completely again. Then your device is free of limescale and there are no decalcifying residues left.
Iron with descaler function
Modern irons often have a special button for descaling.
- However, you also need a descaling solution here.
- Fill them into the water tank and switch on the device. As soon as the iron is hot, press the descaler button on the machine. Keep the button pressed until the water tank is empty again.
- Tip: It is best to hold your iron over the sink here as well.
- Then feel clear water in the tank and repeat the process.
