Creating a backup from the NAS - you have to be aware of that
If you want to make a backup of your NAS, you should note a few points. In this practical tip, we will tell you what is important.
Creating a backup from the NAS - you have to be aware of that
- We recommend an external hard drive to back up the backup. Make sure that it is large enough.
- When backing up, the external hard drive should have the NTFS file system, otherwise not all files will fit on the hard drive.
- In most cases, you can specify an interval in the NAS settings when the backup should be made automatically. We recommend a monthly backup here.
- Alternatively, in many cases you can also set the files to be saved on the NAS in the respective cloud. You may have to register to do this.
- Or you upload the files to your Dropbox. So you have it with you everywhere and always at hand. But also here you should make sure that the Dropbox is large enough.
- However, you should note that a backup to the local or external hard drive is significantly faster than via the Internet to your Dropbox or similar cloud services.
- If you have encrypted your NAS, you should also consider encrypting the backup, for example with TrueCrypt.
We will show you how to build your own NAS server in the next practical tip.
