Deactivate Balloon Tips - How to get rid of the speech bubble
The Windows Balloon Tips can be permanently deactivated by making two small changes in the registry. We'll tell you how.
The Windows Balloon Tip
Everyone is probably familiar with the Windows Balloon Tip. This is a desktop tooltip that is often referred to as the "little speech bubble".
- The balloon tip can contain information or advertising.
- Balloon tips are often superfluous, especially for experienced users.
- Deactivating the Balloon Tips does not remove any Tool Tips, such as the help function of the Explorer or the Tool Tool Tips from Office.
Disable Windows Balloon Tips
In order to deactivate the balloon tips, you have to change two entries in the registry:
- Open "Run" with the key combination [Win] + [R]
- Type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) in the "Open" area. The registry editor opens.
- Navigate to "Computer \ HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced"
- Double-click the "EnableBalloonTip" key and change the value to "0".
- Double-click the "ShowInfoTip" key and change this value to "0" as well. The speech bubble is deactivated from the next computer start.
To reactivate the balloon tips, change the values back to "1" accordingly. You can also change many other usage settings in the registry, for example deactivating the Windows key or caps lock, or activating the number pad at system start.
