Barmer GEK: How to cancel your health insurance
If you would like to terminate your membership in the Barmer GEK and terminate the contract, you must meet deadlines. We show you how to do it best here.
Canceling membership of the Barmer GEK - you should note that
Health insurance companies have a statutory membership of at least 18 months. Only then can you terminate your contract with Barmer GEK.
- If you would like to switch from the Barmer GEK to another health insurance company, you must observe a period of two months. So you cancel at the end of the month after next.
- If the Barmer GEK increases the contributions or requests an additional contribution, you can exercise your special right of termination. In this case, the notice period is only one month. So you cancel at the end of the next month.
- The notice of termination must include your name, your address, the date, your insured number and your signature.
- The letter should state that you are giving notice of termination at the earliest possible time. You should also request a confirmation of termination within 14 days.
- Send the letter of termination by post and preferably by registered mail. If you live in the postcode area from 00001 to 46999, send the notice to Barmer GEK, 42266 Wuppertal. If you live in a town with a postal code from 47000 to 99999, the address is Barmer GEK, 73524 Schwäbisch Gmünd.
