Charging battery packs - how long do they have to charge?
Insert battery rechargeable batteries into the charger and charge them - how long? In addition to overcharging, there is also the so-called memory effect, which reduces the life of your batteries.
Charging battery packs: How long is "long enough"?
If the flashlight stops working, the battery is probably empty. However, it is not so easy to find out when the battery is full:
- There are battery chargers that show you by small lights whether the battery is already fully charged.
- If the device does not show this to you, a small formula will help you to calculate: Divide the capacity of the battery (mAh) by the charging current of the charger (mA) and multiply this by a factor of 75. You will then get the approximate charging time in minutes.
Tips for battery charging - you should be aware of that
The battery performance can be greatly reduced if the battery is charged incorrectly. Therefore, please note the following:
- Do not charge the battery until it is completely discharged ("empty"). Otherwise, the memory effect sets in and the battery capacity is greatly weakened.
- Tip: With many battery chargers, you can also discharge the batteries beforehand.
- If you have a charger that does not turn itself off after charging, it may overcharge.
You can usually read information such as the capacity of a battery or the charging current on the devices themselves. If you have just charged but unused batteries, you can extend your life with this tip.
