Battery full or empty? How to test it without a measuring device
If you want to check whether a battery is still full or already empty, you do not need a measuring device to test the battery. We show you how to do it without.
Battery: full or empty? How to test it
- For the test you need the battery to be tested and a definitely full battery. If you only have one battery, the test works anyway. With a full battery, however, you can compare the test result.
- If you drop the battery vertically on the table from a height of about 20 centimeters, you will recognize the fill level of the battery by the impact.
- A completely empty battery jumps a few centimeters again. A full battery barely jumps up but topples over.
- Did you know that you can also use a small AAA battery as an AA battery?
Why do empty batteries jump?
- There is a jelly-like mass in alkaline batteries. If the battery is used up, the mass becomes solid.
- Batteries that are still full topple directly in the fall test. The jelly-like substance cushions the impact.
- An empty battery jumps up again, as the inside has solidified and bounces off the floor.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how long you should charge battery batteries until they are full.
