Build a wasp trap yourself: you need it
It is important to know that wasps are protected in Germany, which is why you shouldn't just kill the insects. But there are exceptions to this rule. We have summarized all information on this topic for you in another practical tip.
- An empty plastic or beer bottle
- beer
- sugar
- water
- scissors
- duct tape
- Optional: detergent
Crafting instructions wasp trap
- First, you should take care of the attractant that you later put in the trap as bait. A mixture of beer, sugar and water works best here. Mix water and beer in equal parts and add a few spoons of sugar. You can also add a little washing-up liquid to the mixture. This prevents the wasps from flying away again.
- If you use a plastic bottle as a trap, cut off about the top third of the bottle. Remove the lid and put the top of the bottle upside down in the rest of the bottle. Glue the two parts together with adhesive tape at the cutting edge.
- With the beer bottle as a trap, no further preparation is necessary before adding the attractant.
- Pour the attractant into the plastic or beer bottle and place it some distance away. The wasps are attracted by the smell and crawl into the bottle, but do not get out through the thin bottle neck.
alternatives
- If you don't have a plastic or beer bottle on hand, a bowl will do the trick. Just fill up with the attractant like the bottles. However, you should use a particularly large amount of detergent in the mixture here to prevent the wasps from flying away.
- In the trap, the wasps will die sooner or later. If you prefer to keep the animals alive - after all, they also play an important role in our ecosystem - you can also lure them away with fresh fruit. Simply place a plate of sliced fruit about ten meters away from where you are. As long as you change the fruit regularly, this should keep the wasps away from you.
