Beamer: image flickers - what to do?
The use of projectors has become part of everyday working life for many. We'll show you what you can do if the picture flickers.
Find the source for the image flicker
Find out where the cause of the interference with the projector image lies. This is how you can fix the problem in a targeted manner. The following guidelines will help you in your search:
- Determine whether only the transmitted image or the projector menu is flickering. If the menu image is still and looks normal, a defective lamp is not the cause of the problem. Otherwise, try replacing the lamp to correct the image interference.
- Damaged cables or loose contacts can trigger the flickering. Check the individual cables and connections by shutting down and reconnecting all devices involved. Replace cables if necessary. In some cases the problem is related to the network cable of the PC used.
- If you have two circuits that work independently of one another, connect the projector to the other circuit. When changing the socket, make sure that the projector is not disturbed by the use of another electronic device.
- Another cause could be the player. This means the device from which the information originates and is transmitted to the projector. Use a different device and check whether the picture still flickers. The synchronization may not work properly here. Changing the refresh rate could fix the flickering.
Change screen frequency in the system settings
Change the screen frequency of your player to eliminate the flickering of the projector image. We show you how this works for Windows 7 as an example:
- Right-click anywhere on your Windows 7 desktop. Select the menu item "Screen triggering".
- Open the window to "Advanced Settings" and navigate under "Graphics card" to "List all modes". Here you can now view and select all available screen frequencies.
Preventive: wait for your projector
If you maintain your projector regularly, you can prevent image flickering if necessary.
- After about 1000 hours of operation, the lamps of a projector gradually fail. Check this from time to time and at best get a replacement lamp.
- Clean the device regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions. In this way you ensure that your projector works as long as possible.
