Beamer: Calculate the correct distance
If you want to buy a new projector, you should first calculate the correct distance from your projection surface. In this guide, we will show you how this works.
Beamer: calculate distance and other factors
When buying a projector, you should consider other factors in addition to the correct distance in your decision-making.
- The general rule is: a screen should be half as wide as the viewer is sitting away from it. For example, if your sofa is 4 meters from the screen, the screen should be about 2 meters wide.
- Most manufacturers state the correct distance in the operating instructions. If you do not have this at hand, we will show you how to calculate the distance yourself in the next paragraph.
Calculate the correct distance for the projector
- Open the BeamerShop24 website and select the manufacturer and model of your projector below.
- If you know the size of the canvas, switch to the "Size" tab below. Choose between 16: 9 and 4: 3 and enter the width of the screen.
- Confirm your entry with the Enter key and check the minimum and maximum distance on the right. You can set these using the projector's zoom.
- If you only know the distance from the projector to the screen, that's no problem either. Go to the "Distance" tab below and enter the distance between the lens and the screen.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to properly clean the projector filter.
