Beamrise: Remove malware completely
If Beamrise has landed on your system, you should remove the malware as soon as possible. We show you how to do it in the system and with the most common browsers.
Step 1: Remove Beamrise from the system
Beamrise is actually not a virus, but a so-called browser hijacker. This nests in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome and changes your home page and standard search engine. He also directs you to unwanted websites and surveys your surfing behavior. In the worst case, passwords are even passed on to third parties. To remove Beamrise again, you must first uninstall the malware:
- Open the Control Panel and open the overview of the installed programs. In Windows XP, click on "Software", in Windows 7 on "Programs and Features". In Windows 8, type "Programs and Features" (without the quotation marks) in the Start menu.
- Now look for the entry "Beamrise" in the list of installed programs. If the software is installed, remove it using the uninstall function of Windows.
- Beamrise can also be installed on your system under a different name. Therefore, look for other programs from the manufacturer "Beamrise" and remove them as well. Also remove unknown software that was installed around the time of the infection.
- Finally, download the software AdwCleaner and start it.
- Click on "Search". The tool now searches your PC for remnants of Beamrise and other malware. Then click on "Delete" and confirm with "OK".
Step 2: Remove Beamrise from Chrome
Even after uninstalling, there are still remnants of Beamrise in your browser. You have to remove them manually. Chrome users follow these instructions:
- In the Chrome address bar, type "about: extensions" (without the quotes). Check whether there is an extension called "Iminent on Beamrise enhancement" or "Secure Downloader" and remove both with the trash icon if necessary. Also remove all other unknown extensions, as the malware could have registered under a different name.
- Now click on "Settings": In the "On startup" area, make sure that Chrome no longer automatically calls Beamrise as the start page. Click "Open a new tab page"> "Carry on from where I left off" or set your own homepage.
- In the "Search" area, make sure that Beamrise is no longer used as a search engine for the omnibox. Choose a trusted search engine. You can permanently delete Beamrise using the "Manage search engines ..." function.
Remove Beamrise from Firefox
- Click on the orange Firefox button and select "Add-ons". In the "Extensions" area, look for all entries that contain the term "Beamrise". You can delete them with the Remove button. You should also delete all other unknown extensions.
- Click on the orange Firefox button and select "Settings". On the "General" page, ensure that Beamrise is no longer used as the home page: Click on "Restore Defaults" or set your own home page.
- In the address line, type "about: config" (without the quotation marks). Look for the entry "keyword.URL" (without the quotes). If this is available, click on it with the right mouse button and select "Reset". Repeat this step with the entries "browser.search.defaultengine", "browser.search.selectedengine" and "browser.newtab.url".
Remove Beamrise from Internet Explorer
- Click the Settings icon in the top right corner and select Manage Add-ons. In the "Toolbars and Extensions" area, search for all entries that contain the term "Beamrise". Right-click on found entries and select "Deactivate". Repeat this process with all unknown extensions, as the malware could have registered under a different name.
- In the "Search Provider" area, remove the "Beamrise" entry by selecting it with the right mouse button and then clicking "Remove". Then choose another search provider and select "As default". You can then close the add-ons window.
- Click the Settings icon again and select "Internet Options". In the "General" tab, click on the "Standard page" button in the "Home" area. Click "OK" to close the settings.
