With many mods or other extensions, it may make sense to increase the RAM for Minecraft. In this practical tip we will show you how this works.
Start Minecraft with more RAM
Since Minecraft version 1.8, you can easily set the RAM used in the launcher.
- Open the Minecraft Launcher as usual and click on "Edit Profile" at the bottom left.
- Check "JVM Arguments" at the bottom of the window.
- There should already be something in this line. Change only the "-Xmx" part. Behind this you can set the size of the Minecraft RAM.
- For example, enter the command "-Xmx2G" for 2 GB. Make sure that you never use more than half of your fully available RAM for Minecraft. This could lead to PC problems.
- Click on "Save Profile". Now you can start Minecraft with more RAM.
More Minecraft RAM: Fix Java error message
If you receive an error message after changing the setting, you must also configure Java.
- Open the system settings of your computer.
- Search for "Java" in the search bar at the top right and open the Java settings.
- Switch to the "Java" tab and click on "View".
- You should find various entries here. One should have a check mark on the left. Click on the "Runtime parameters" field for this entry.
- Enter "-Xmx -Xms". After the two commands you have to enter a size again. It is best to enter the same number here as in the Minecraft settings. In our example: "-Xmx2G -Xmx2G".
- Save the settings and close the windows. You should now be able to start Minecraft with more RAM.
