Custom URL in Google+ - what is it?
Just like Facebook, Google+ has recently been able to create a custom URL. This practical tip explains how to get your own profile abbreviation.
Personalized URL - what's in it for me?
With a custom URL you can quickly access your profile. Instead of a long web address with a random number sequence, you or your friends only have to remember your shortened URL - ideally your name on Google+. For example, "//plus.google.com/b/+MaxMustermann".
Own Google+ URL requirements
Unlike on Facebook, your profile on Google Plus has to meet certain requirements if you want to use the personal URL.
- Before you can even request a URL with your name, you must have 10 followers and have entered a profile picture. In addition, your account must be older than 30 days.
- If you meet these requirements, a note with a URL suggestion will automatically appear on your profile (see screenshot).
- To save the custom URL, simply click on "Select URL". You may now have to make small changes to the address in order to clearly assign it to your profile. Some users may also have to confirm their URL via SMS.
Important: Google reserves the right to charge a fee for the custom URL in the future. However, you would of course be informed in advance.
