Better googling: With these commands you will find what you are looking for
With the right commands, you can search better on Google and find what you want to know faster. We'll tell you which commands you use to google more effectively.
site: Search only certain pages or languages
Especially if you are looking for technical terms in English or Latin, you often don't end up on German websites. To restrict the website or regionality, you can use the "site:" command.
- For example, if you search for the "World Trade Center", you can only display search results from German websites by adding "site: de" to the search. The search phrase is then: "World Trade Center site: de".
- You can also search only certain pages. Simply add the main URL of the website - for example "site: www.chip.de".
ext: Google search for certain file types
If you are looking for Word, PowerPoint or PDF files, you can take this into account in your search:
- For example, to get a presentation on coral reefs, type "coral reefs ext: ppt".
- As an alternative to the "ext:" command, you can also use "filetype:". It is a little longer, but easier to remember for some.
From..to: narrow the price range of products
If you are looking for products and their prices, you can narrow the price range. To do this, you need to put two points between the two numbers:
- For example, if you enter "MacBook 1000..1100 Euro", you will only receive offers within this price range.
link: Find pages that refer to others
Using the "link:" command you can find websites that link to certain pages or words. For example, you can see who links to your homepage:
- Enter "link: chip.de", you will find all websites that link to our site.
In this workshop you will find detailed instructions on how to correctly use all commands and tips for Google.
