How you dispose of a duvet properly depends on the age and condition of the blanket. If the duvet is still in an acceptable condition, there may even be a possibility for further use.
Dispose of the duvet - you have these options
At some point a new duvet has to be found, but where to put the old one? Recycling old bedspreads is a rather difficult task, as it is difficult to clean the heavy blankets at home and, for example, dust mites tend to nest over time.
- If your old duvet is in good condition and too good to be thrown away, there is definitely a further purpose. If you have a large washing machine, wash the bedspread beforehand.
- If animals live in your household, they may be happy about a cozy blanket in their bed. Animal welfare associations generally also accept well-preserved blankets, towels or pillows for their protégés. Before you set off, however, you should ask as a precaution.
- Aid organizations often have large, professional washing machines where you can clean donations such as clothing etc. in advance. But also here applies: The bedspread should be in a good condition.
- If you have enough space, stow the old duvet in any corner where it doesn't bother you. When moving or transporting fragile items, you will be happy if you have something to protect sensitive furniture.
- Alternatively, you can place a free ad in one of the classifieds portals such as eBay. You will hardly sell the old duvet, but maybe someone will still use it for a gift.
- If none of these are options for you, simply take the old duvet with you the next time you drive past the recycling center. As a rule, you can return your old bedding there free of charge.
