Photographing moving objects - the best tips
Photographing moving objects with your camera is not easy. Here you will find tips to help you with this.
Take pictures of moving objects at slow shutter speeds
In order to be able to photograph moving objects, you have to reduce the "shutter speed" either manually or by automatic camera.
- If your camera has a sport mode, switch it on. Your camera will then try to slow down the shutter speed (the amount of time your camera lets light on the sensor). If possible, you can also adjust the shutter speed manually. A 1/160 second is sufficient in most cases.
- Use a tripod. Shaking the camera in hand makes it even more difficult to take a sharp picture. If you use a tripod, you can eliminate this factor.
- If you are not sure whether the photo will be good, zoom out of the picture. The lower zoom means that you wobble less automatically. A picture on which the object is only small but sharp can be seen better than none. You can still enlarge the object in postprocessing.
Good conditions for moving photography
With a good position and the right preparation, you can contribute to a good photo yourself.
- It is best to find a good position in advance. Your camera is having trouble focusing on things that move quickly. However, if the object comes towards you, it is easier for the camera to find the right focus and thus the right focus. So stand in the direction the object will move and take a picture of it from the front.
- Use a large memory card and take multiple pictures of the same situation. So you can be sure that there is at least one good picture.
- Provide good light. Outside it is difficult to influence the lighting conditions. But if you are in a hall or another room, make sure that every form of exposure is switched on. Your camera can then automatically reduce the shutter speed if necessary.
