When shopping, you can also pay with your mobile phone in addition to cash and EC card. More and more shops are now introducing this in Germany. This practical tip explains how to set up your smartphone for cashless shopping.
Pay by mobile phone: These providers exist
Depending on the provider, you need a credit card or a suitable mobile phone contract to pay with your mobile phone. You can use your smartphone to make cashless payments with the following providers:
- Google Pay: With this provider you need a credit card from American Express, Commerzbank, N26, comdirekt or boon in Germany. You can find the full list of supported banks at the Google Support Center. First, download the Google Pay app and add a credit card. You can then pay via NFC.
- Samsung Pay: If you have a Samsung smartphone, you can use the Samsung Pay app. After adding your bank card you can start right away.
- Apple Pay: With this service provider you need a credit card from, for example, American Express, boon, bunq, N26 or Deutsche Bank. You can find a list of all suitable banks at Apple Support. Read how to set up Apple Pay in the next article.
- Netto: The discounter Netto offers its own app with which you can pay with your smartphone in the shop. To do this, your bank account is linked to the app and you must show a code previously generated in the app at the checkout when paying at the checkout.
How to pay with your smartphone
- Mobile phones with a near-field communication function, NFC for short, only have to be held a few centimeters above the reader at the cash register to make the payment.
- If you do not have this function, you can retrofit it with an NFC sticker. Depending on the provider, you have to link this sticker to your account.
- With other providers, you must scan a displayed QR code on the card reader at the checkout to make the payment.
- Or a code appears on your smartphone that has to be scanned by the cashier.
