You can save bees with many tips and tricks. With little effort you can make an important contribution to the environment and to the preservation of our food sources. Because without bees, the majority of our food would not exist.
Save bees - why it is so important
As small as bees are, they are extremely important for nature:
- The little bees not only ensure that we can enjoy sweet honey. They ensure that we get full at all: About a third of our food is directly dependent on bees.
- They also ensure diversity in nature. Many plants would disappear if there were no more bees.
- Monotonous agricultural landscapes, the use of insecticides, climate change - there are many causes for bee death, which is now clearly visible. Less and less of the hard-working workers buzz and hum in Germany.
Save bees: Create a bee-friendly garden / balcony
- Make sure that bees feel comfortable in your garden or on your balcony. This includes that the little brummers find enough nectar. For example, sunflowers and lavender are preferred flowering plants that bees like to fly to. Not every plant that looks beautiful is useful for bees. Geraniums or forsythias are purely ornamental, they do not offer bees nectar.
- It's best to make sure to choose plants, shrubs, and herbs for a bee-friendly garden.
- Bees not only need pollen and nectar, they are also thirsty. You can give the animals to drink with a flat bowl of water. It is best to place a few stones, moss or sticks in it. This serves as a landing aid and protects the bees from drowning.
- If you have some space in the garden, you can use our instructions to build an apiary yourself. A simple self-made insect hotel means less effort.
- Not everyone has a garden. However, suitable plants on the balcony or just a few herbs on the windowsill are enough. This is also a contribution that can save bees.

Don't use poison for the sake of bees
Avoid insecticides or weed killers in the garden.
- Instead, use natural enemies to control pests. These include, for example, ladybirds or parasitic wasps. You can also fight aphids naturally.
- When purchasing the plants, you should make sure that they have not been treated with pesticides or insecticides.
- By choosing your food, you also have an influence and can save bees in the long term. Buy organic vegetables and fruits. In conventional agriculture, monocultures and the use of pesticides are the norm. Also pay attention to the stickers on fruits and vegetables.
- You do not have to do without honey entirely, but you should also choose organic honey here. So you know that no chemical bee medication was used in the production and the pollen does not come from genetically modified plants.
As a rule, bees do nothing to humans unless they feel threatened. If there is a bee sting anyway, you should act quickly.
