Brewing beer yourself: you should note that
If you want to brew beer yourself, you need a lot of patience and the right ingredients. You can read what you should pay attention to and which ingredients you need in the following practical tip.
Brewing beer - you need it
If you want to brew your own beer, there are different sets that include almost everything. In principle, all you need in your kitchen is a large pot, a funnel, a ladle, a sieve, water, a little sugar and empty bottles.
- First you need to heat the water with the malt. This dissolves the sugar that later turns into alcohol and carbon dioxide. This process is called "mashing".
- In "refining" the residual sugar of the malt is washed out by separating the liquid from the malt.
- Then yeast is added, which processes the sugar and adds spice and bitter substances to the beer.
- These processes take several hours, during which you have to check the temperature again and again. Depending on the mixture, other ingredients are added.
- One brewing set is enough for eight liters of beer. Most parts can be cleaned and reused. However, you can also buy the actual ingredients such as malt, yeast and hops individually.
This is how the beer is made
The yeast produces alcohol and carbonic acid from the malt water. This process is called fermentation, although at the beginning you don't recognize any beer due to the high turbidity in the green-brown liquid.
- The more malt and sugar you add in the different steps, the more alcohol your beer will contain.
- After a few weeks of fermentation in the barrel or in a bottle, you can fill the beer in beer bottles. Then let it ripen for a few more weeks. The temperature of the room is important here. The young beer should also "stand still".
- To end the fermentation process, you can freeze your beer. Enjoy your favorite home-brewed beer with friends.
- Tip: If you need bottles, you don't necessarily have to buy new ones. Get a crate of beer, clean the empty bottles and use them again.
