Training as a beer sommelier
The term “sommelier” is no longer restricted to wine experts. For some years now, the name has been spreading in the beer scene.
- In Germany, training to become a "qualified beer sommelier" is regulated by patent law.
- The "Association of Beer Sommeliers" offers interested parties a 2-week training course. It comprises a total of 100 teaching units. The course fee is € 2, 950.
- The course is divided into two training locations. Prospective beer sommeliers spend the first week in Germany in the “Doemens Akademie” near Munich. At “Kiesbye's Bierkulturhaus” in Austria the course ends after the second week.
- The training includes the transfer of theoretical knowledge, internships, excursions, homework and extensive training documents. Internships make up about 30% of the training.
