Image processing with iPhoto: The most important functions
With "iPhoto" you can manage your pictures on Mac and use some photo editing tools: beautify your photos with interesting effects or correct shooting errors. You can also adjust color and light values. In our practical tip we show you the most important functions.
Image corrections with iPhoto
In "iPhoto" you will find a separate area where you can make corrections. To get to the editing menu, simply select the desired photo and click on "Edit" in the bottom right:
- You can retouch your pictures with a brush. To do this, move the cursor over the error and observe until it disappears.
- If the orientation of a photo is incorrect, you can rotate: To do this, press the "Rotate" button until the orientation is correct.
- With "Crop" you can crop your photos appropriately. To do this, move the outer edges of the picture or drag the desired area on the photo and click "Done".
- With "Correct red eyes" you can remove them. It works automatically. If iPhoto does not recognize the red eyes correctly, you can also help yourself with the mouse. To change the size of the selection tool, move the slider on the right in the desired direction.
Equip images with effects
A number of interesting effects give your photos a new shine. There are various filter templates and color effects in iPhoto. You can find them in the second tab of the editing menu on the right:
- Choose an effect like "Sepia" or "Antique". If you click on it, it is immediately applied to the image. If you want to remove it again, select "Back to original" below.
- You can also adjust the brightness and color saturation in this area (see screenshot).
Adjust color and light values
Use the third and last tab to adjust light and color values. In order to be able to make optimal use of this area, however, you should have some experience with image processing software.
- Exposure and contrast can be set here more precisely than in the effects area. You can change the colors with the tone value scale.
- You can optimize your photos with the sharpness tool and reduce the noise with another slider.
- In addition, the saturation for skin tones can be deactivated. Then they are left out and continue to look natural.
