Printing pictures and photos: the 5 best tips
If you want to print pictures and photos on your home printer, there are a few things to consider. We show you the five best tips.
Tip 1: Use the correct paper
- When buying, make sure you have the right photo paper. You can get different results with different papers.
- A silky gloss surface can hide slight blurring. A matt surface can increase the contrast somewhat. Grainy surfaces minimize noise.
Tip 2: Check printer compatibility
- Inkjet printers are best suited for photo printing. Models with additional photo inks achieve even better results. This enables much more intense colors than with the usual three color cartridges.
- Laser printers are usually not suitable for printing photos.
Tip 3: Print black and white images
- Also use normal color mode to print black and white images. If you print in grayscale mode, the color space is severely restricted for most printers.
- Note: Your black and white prints will look even better on matt paper.
Tip 4: Choose the right resolution for photo prints
- Even if professional printouts offer a very high resolution, 300 dpi is usually sufficient for a sharp print.
- Select the highest possible dpi number on your printer. If more than 300 dpi are possible, use this too.
Tip 5: correct configuration
- If you use special photo paper, you must also specify this when printing. In the print settings you can select the photo paper. This absorbs much less ink.
- If you use normal paper, you do not have to change anything in the print settings.
