Create noise with Gimp - how it works
With the Gimp image processing software, you can easily create noise and give your images a special touch. We'll show you how it's done.
Create image noise as a gimp effect
Most of the time, noise on pictures is undesirable, for example in poor lighting conditions. However, you can give some pictures a special effect with a noise if you use the filter specifically and cleanly:
- To do this, open the desired image in Gimp.
- In the "Filter" menu, select the "Noise" entry. Here you can choose either HSV noise or RGB noise. With HSV noise, hue, saturation and value are randomized independently of one another. With RGB noise, however, Gimp changes the colors by random values. Here we decided to use RGB noise.
- Try out whether you want to check the "Correlated noise" and "Independent RGB channels" checkboxes or not. You can see the difference directly in the preview window. Play with the sliders until you find the setting you want.
- Tip: For deliberate picture noise, pictures with a few colors are particularly suitable. You can also "save" and spice up blurry photos with this effect.
For even better results, combine the image noise with a retro look created in Gimp.
