Calibrate the screen yourself using on-board equipment
If you want to calibrate your screen, you don't need expensive equipment. The Windows on-board tool "dccw", on the other hand, is free of charge and usually sufficient for everyday use.
Screen fine calibration with "dccw"
You can call the system tool "dccw" directly with this name or you can find it in the Control Panel under »Display and Customization | Display «via the link» Calibrate color «.
- Then, if necessary, move the program window to the second monitor to be calibrated and click on "Next". Now observe the information in the program and, if necessary, keep the instructions for the monitor ready to make the device settings.
- In the first step you optimize the gamma value. To do this, adjust the slider so that the small dots in the image shown disappear as far as possible.
- Click »Next« several times to get to the brightness optimization. There, adjust the value so that the items of clothing can be distinguished and the sign in the background almost disappears.
- Follow the next steps to adjust the contrast. If in doubt, use slightly lower values for brightness and contrast, because this is easier on the eyes when working on the screen for a longer period.
Adjust color balance
The next steps for color matching are a little more difficult. You can readjust here with the controllers in the program window as well as on the device.
- The gray tones are tuned somewhat according to your own feeling. A comparison is also difficult. For example, try to hold a white sheet of paper next to the bottom of the screen in bright daylight so that the monitor does not shine through it if possible. In artificial light, however, this does not work very successfully.
Test overall impression
In the last step you can test the overall impression. To do this, click on "Previous calibration" and switch to another program or photo display for checking. Repeat the test with the "Current calibration" setting. Finally, use "Finish" to decide whether you want to keep the new settings or discard them with "Cancel".
