Screen moved or cut off - what to do?
If the screen of your PC or laptop suddenly moves or is partially cut off, this can have various reasons. In this practical tip you will learn how to solve the problem.
Modify the resolution on the monitor
Sometimes new drivers or programs change the screen resolution, sometimes you get to some buttons unnoticed and suddenly the whole picture has shifted. With PCs, you usually have two options to get a "decent" picture on the monitor again.
- You can set up the resolution accordingly in the operating system, or you can set the image correctly again on the monitor.
- There is an auto-calibration function on your screen, for example called "Autoadjust". If you activate this function, the monitor searches for the correct settings.
- You can also call up the on-screen menu and do the fine tuning yourself. You can find out exactly where you need to make the settings on your monitor in the respective help menu.
Set the screen resolution in the operating system
Alternatively - or the only option for the notebook - you can also reset the resolution in the operating system.
- In Windows 7, for example, open the Control Panel.
- In the "Appearance and Personalization" area, select the "Adjust screen resolution" option.
- You can then let Windows search for the right resolution for your configuration. Of course, you can also change these or make the appropriate settings yourself.
- It might also be a good idea to take the opportunity to download the latest driver for your graphics card.
