Bing Maps: Bird's eye view no longer works - what to do?
The map service Bing Maps contains a bird's eye view, in which many areas can also be viewed in the form of oblique aerial photographs. In this practical tip, we will show you what you can do if this alternative perspective no longer works.
Bing Maps - Fix Bird’s Eye Problems
In Bing Maps, you can switch to bird's eye view by moving the mouse pointer over the map icon in the top right and selecting the correspondingly named view from the menu that opens. If this does not work or if you do not have this entry, consider the following information:
- The bird's eye view is not available for the entire map material, but only for larger cities. In other regions you can still choose a bird's eye view, but you will only see the usual satellite images. Navigate to a big city in Bing Maps if the bird's eye view works again as expected.
- You can use the bird's eye view in all popular web browsers. However, the view is not available in the apps for smartphones, tablets and Windows 10. There you can only choose between aerial photos and a street view.
- If your web browser does not display the bird's eye view correctly in Bing Maps, first check whether you are using the latest version of the browser. If necessary, perform an update.
- If you have a bird's eye view, clearing your browser’s cookies and cache can also help. The procedure is the same in all browsers: Press the key combination [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Del], check the appropriate entries and delete the data for the entire period.
- If you have installed additional add-ons for your browser, these can in rare cases interfere with the correct functioning of Bing Maps and thus trigger problems with a bird's eye view. Deactivate all browser add-ons as a test and check whether the bird's eye view now works. If this is the case, you can switch the add-ons on again individually and find out which one is responsible for the error.
In our next practical tip, we will explain what Bing Maps 3D is and how you can use the 3D view of the map service.
