Remove BingProtect - so it'll work
If you have caught the BingProtect adware, you should remove it immediately. Although it is not a virus, this adware annoys us with unnecessary advertising and makes surfing more difficult.
Step 1: remove BingProtect from Windows
BingProtect is adware that has nothing to do with the Bing search engine. Among other things, you will be disturbed by pop-ups and website redirects.
- Uninstall BingProtect: Open the Control Panel and sort the list of installed programs by the installation date. Select "BingProtect" and click the "Uninstall" button at the top. Then follow the further instructions to uninstall. If you cannot find "BingProtect", first remove all unknown new entries.
- AdwCleaner: The free tool specializes in such adware and knows exactly where to look. Carry out a scan and then delete all finds.
- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: A pest rarely comes alone. If you want to be on the safe side, you should also perform a virus scan. However, this step is not necessary to remove BingProtect.
Step 2: Remove BingProtect from the browser
If BingProtect is still in your browser, reset it completely. Use the following instructions for all installed browsers.
- Reset Google Chrome
- Reset Mozilla Firefox
- Reset Internet Explorer
- Reset Opera
- Reset Safari
Remove BingProtect: Clean up shortcuts
The last thing you have to do is delete the remains in the shortcuts: Right-click on the shortcut on your browser (also in the taskbar) to open the context menu and select the "Properties". In the "Link" tab, call up the "Target" field. There should be nothing behind "" C: \… .. \ Mozilla Firefox \ firefox.exe ", you have to delete all other entries.
