Reinstall BIOS - Here's how
The Basic Input Output System (BIOS for short) is responsible for hardware processes in your PC. If you have any problems, you should reinstall it. We show you how to do this in this article.
Reinstall BIOS
If your PC does not recognize a hardware device such as a new graphics card correctly or not at all, there is usually no way around reinstalling the BIOS. There are several ways to reset the BIOS. The following is particularly simple. Caution: Since this will reset the BIOS to the factory settings, you may have to configure some BIOS settings manually.
- Switch off your PCs and cut off the power supply.
- Open the cover of your PC and remove the BIOS battery. It is the flat button cell, which is usually located in the center of the mainboard (see picture).
- Now wait about 10 minutes to ensure that the system is no longer drawing any residual current and that the capacitors are discharged.
- Reinstall the BIOS battery, attach the covers and start your PC. Since the power was cut, the system was forced to restart the BIOS completely, which usually resolves the hardware problems.
BIOS problems can also occur if the BIOS battery is broken. In the next article, we will show you how to change the BIOS battery.
