Reset BIOS via jumper
If your PC does not start up after experimenting with the BIOS settings, you can easily reset it using a jumper.
Reset the BIOS using a jumper
Almost all mainboards have a so-called "Clear CMOS Jumper". This is usually located near the BIOS battery (a large, flat button cell). On boards from some manufacturers, the jumper can also have a different name. In this case, consult the manual.
- Always disconnect your PC from the power supply by pulling the power cord before removing the jumper. Doing so could damage your computer.
- Set the Clear CMOS jumper from the "standard position" (usually pins 1-2) to the "clear position" (usually pins 2-3) and wait a few seconds. Then set the jumper back to the starting position.
Make changes to the BIOS and the mainboard only if you are familiar with them. Doing so could severely damage your PC. If the jumper reset was not successful, you can also remove the BIOS battery for a few minutes. You can find more detailed instructions here.
