Bitdefender cannot be installed: possible causes
An antivirus program like Bitdefender deeply interferes with the operating system and therefore requires some prerequisites. Therefore, consider the following tips before installing Bitdefender:
- Antivirus programs mostly cancel each other out. Before you install Bitdefender, you should completely uninstall your previous virus protection.
- Make sure your operating system is up to date. The updates include security patches on which virus protection is based.
- Check if your license is still valid. If you want to use your product key on a new computer, you must first deactivate Bitdefender on the old device.
- There may have been a small error in the cache of your PC. Restart your computer and try installing Bitdefender again.
Troubleshoot installation problems
If the above measures do not solve the problems, try the installation in debug mode and create an installation log:
- Visit this Bitdefender Support website and download the files "dbgview.zip" and "install_debug.reg".
- Double-click the "install_debug.reg" file so that Windows switches to debug mode during the installation.
- Then unzip the "dbgview.zip" archive with WinRAR, for example, and double-click on the application file dbgview.exe. This will log events during the installation.
- Now run the installation of Bitdefender as you have tried before.
- If the installation is canceled or you receive an error message, switch to DebugView and stop the recording.
- Save the log and contact Bitdefender support. Customer service can use the installation log to find out exactly which error is preventing the installation.
