Use Blackberry as a WiFi hotspot - Here's how
If you set up a WiFi hotspot with your Blackberry smartphone, you can go online with your laptop or tablet without a surf stick. We will show you how to do this here.
Set up WiFi hotspot on Blackberry OS 7
As of OS version 7.1 you can set up a WiFi hotspot on your Blackberry Bold, Curve or Torch. You can share the smartphone's internet connection with up to five devices. To set up and activate tethering, open the settings in your Blackberry.
- There you will find the entry "Manage connections". Choose this.
- To activate the mobile hotspot, check "Mobile hotspot".
- To be able to use the hotspot, you have to configure it. Choose a name and password for your connections. Confirm the entry and close the settings.
- An icon in the status bar will then inform you about the active hotspot.
Set up WiFi hotspot on Blackberry OS 10
The current operating system Blackberry OS 10 can also be converted into a mobile router with the hotspot function.
- To do this, open the "System Settings".
- Under the menu item "Network connections" you will find the entry "Mobile hotspot".
- Confirm the safety instructions with "Next" and follow the instructions.
- Set up a hotspot password. Devices that then want to access your WLAN must first enter this password.
- The hotspot is then activated. The info screen now shows the status of the connection and the smartphones, tablets or notebooks connected to you. Your Blackberry can supply the Internet with up to eight devices at the same time.
Blackberry Bridge special case: Pair playbook tablet with smartphone from OS 5.0
If you have a Blackberry Playbook and a Blackberry smartphone, you do not need a WiFi hotspot. You can easily connect your tablet via the in-house "Bridge". This means that you can not only access the Internet via your smartphone, but also have access to contacts, calendar, BB Messenger and other data. Bridge runs against the normal hotspot via Bluetooth and uses less battery.
- First download the free "Blackberry Bridge" application to your playbook and smartphone.
- Activate "Blackberry Bridge" in the options of your playbook.
- Set up the connection with the wizards and press "Continue". A barcode appears.
- In the app on your smartphone, select "Add new tablet"
- Scan the barcode on your Blackberry Playbook.
- With a click on "Continue" the tablet will automatically connect to your Blackberry.
