Blackberry: Install converted BAR files on your device
In this practical tip, we will show you how to install converted BAR files on your current Blackberry.
Activate developer mode on the Blackberry
The Canadian cell phone pioneer has set up an Android runtime for the Blackberry Playbook tablet and the new OS10 smartphones. This allows you to install previously converted Android apps on your device. To do this, you first have to activate developer mode on your Blackberry phone or playbook tablet.
- Open the "Settings" of your Blackberry device by swiping down from the top of the screen.
- Navigate to the menu item "Security and data protection".
- There you will find the "Developer mode" option. Tap the latch to activate it.
- Now set a password for developer mode. This is required in order to be able to access the smartphone later on with the PC.
- From now on, your status LED informs you about the active developer mode.
Install converted apps on the Blackberry
To install the apps with the BAR format on your Blackberry, you need the free program "DDPB". You can download it here.
- Open the "DDPB" program. On the left side you will see two input fields for the IP address and password.
- Enter your "developer IP address" in the field above. You can find this on your device under the "Developer mode" that has already been activated. In the field below, write your previously defined password.
- With "Add" you integrate your BAR file into the app list of "DDPD".
- Now all you have to do is click "Install" to install the former Android apps on your Blackberry.
- You can now find the fully installed app as usual in the other apps on your smartphone. You can now deactivate developer mode again.
Warning: Unfortunately, not all converted apps work on your Blackberry. Version 2.0 must also be installed on the playbook.
