Moving bloggers to a new domain - is that possible?
With your Blogger website, you can move to your own new domain and make the settings easily in the Blogspot dashboard. We'll show you what else you need to do.
With Blogger to your own domain - you make these settings in the dashboard
You can use Blogger's dashboard to add your blog redirection to a new domain. Of course, you first have to connect a domain to a provider.
- Access your blog from the Blogger dashboard.
- Call up the "Basic Settings" in the side menu via "Settings".
- Under the blog address, click the "+ Set up a third party URL for my blog" link.
- Next, enter the URL of your new domain in the input field in the "Advanced Settings" window. Make sure that you start with "www." enter. Otherwise you will get a message that the blog cannot be forwarded. Click on "Save".
- Now you have to change DNS settings at your provider.
New domain: Enter CNAME at the provider
In order to move Blogger to its own domain, changes to the DNS settings are necessary. We show you the procedure here for the domain provider Strato. Here, the DNS setting CNAME only works for subdomains, so you have to buy a hosting package. Checkdomain.de only offers CNAME entries for your domain, without you having to purchase a package. The procedure is the same:
- Log in to Strato or Checkdomain in a new browser window and switch to the desired domain. For Strato click on the "Manage" button, for Checkdomain on "Configuration"> "Checkdomain Name Server".
- Now open the "DNS settings" at Strato and click on "manage" behind "CNAME-Record".
- Strato: If you activate "Change CNAME entry", a text field appears. Copy the entry specified by Blogger here, check the box next to Strato and apply the settings. At Checkdomain choose "Domain Services"> "Blogger" and activate the "Domain Settings".
- Switch back to the browser with the Blogger dashboard and click "Save".
- It now usually takes 3-6 hours to move to the new domain.
